Putin Avoids 'Kursk Trap' As His Troops Poised To Take Pokrovsk

Russian President Putin has downplayed Ukraine's invasion of Russian territory in Kursk, asserting that it is a trap designed to divert Russian forces from capturing the Donbass region. Putin claims that the Kursk operation has weakened Ukraine's forces in key areas and accelerated Russia's offensive in Donetsk. Despite Putin's statements, Russian forces have been engaged in fierce fighting in Kursk since August 6. The city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine is facing imminent threat of capture by Russian forces, which would strengthen Russia's hold on the Donbass region. Analysts believe that the fall of Pokrovsk could pave the way for Russia to secure control over the entire Donbass. The White House is considering providing long-range missiles to Ukraine, but has indicated that it does not see significant value in sending ATACMS systems at this time.
