The robots we saw at CES 2025: The good, the bad and the completely unhinged

At CES 2025, many robotics companies showcased their latest creations, but it was clear that they are still figuring out how to effectively use AI. Instead of practical robots, the show featured a mix of adorable companions, strange concepts, and one terrifying humanoid. TCL's Ai Me was one of the cutest robots on display, designed as an emotional support companion for kids with AI capabilities and a human-like voice. Ropet was another standout, responding to voice, touch, and gestures with cute emotional reactions and ChatGPT integration. Mirumi was a small, fluffy robot with no purpose other than to make people smile, while Romi was a conversational robot that fits in the palm of your hand. Miroki was a returning robot from last year's CES, now with LLM integration and new skills. Scorpion was an AI bartender that performed a synchronized dance to "Apt." with another robot. Unitree's robots, including a quadruped "robot dog" and humanoid G1, were impressive but also terrifying, with the G1 accidentally attacking a journalist. Mi-Mo was a six-legged table with a lamp on top that can "think and act" based on its environment, and Reachy 2 was an open-source machine ideal for tele-operation and data acquisition. Overall, the robots at CES 2025 were more focused on being cute and entertaining than practical and useful.
