Bluesky, an alternate social network, is experiencing a surge in Brazilian users following the ban on X in Brazil. The official Bluesky account announced that Brazil is setting new all-time-highs for activity on the platform. Developer Paul Frazee warned of potential outages and performance issues due to the increased traffic. In May 2023, a prediction was made that Bluesky would replace Twitter and gain mainstream popularity due to its simplicity and ease of use. However, this prediction did not come to pass, and instead, Meta's Threads has become a thriving alternative. Despite this, Bluesky remains the closest in spirit to old Twitter among the four major Twitter-like platforms, including X, Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky. The author continues to support Bluesky and is not surprised by the influx of Brazilian signups following the X ban.
