IIT Mandi is inviting its students to participate in Hacktoberfest 2024, a month-long celebration of open-source collaboration. By contributing to the HackQuest Repo, students can create a robust codebase, tackle real coding challenges, and kickstart their open-source journey. Hacktoberfest is a great opportunity for students to explore open source, level up their skills, and earn a limited-edition swag and digital badge. To participate, students need to register and submit four successful pull requests to the HackQuest Repo. The repo focuses on competitive programming and algorithm mastery, allowing students to tackle common problems, contribute their own algorithms, and help their peers learn. A step-by-step guide is provided to help students make their first contribution, including setting up their workspace, forking the repository, cloning, creating a new branch, making changes, committing, and pushing their work. General guidelines for contributions include writing clean and readable code, commenting where necessary, avoiding duplication, and sticking to the theme. Students can also explore other open-source projects and learn more about open source through provided resources.
