David Cone’s perfect game was almost too perfect to believe

On July 18, 1999, David Cone threw a perfect game for the New York Yankees against the Montreal Expos, matching Don Larsen's 1956 World Series feat against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The game was on Yogi Berra Day, and Berra and Larsen were in attendance. Cone was 36 years old and had just returned from surgery on his shoulder. The game was interrupted by a 33-minute rain delay in the third inning, but Cone's adrenaline rush was extreme in the ninth inning. After the game, he was congratulated by Larsen, who had thrown the first perfect game in World Series history. Cone's teammates carried him off the field, and he was welcomed to the "club" by Toronto Blue Jays pitcher David Wells, who had thrown a perfect game for the Yankees the previous season.
