Apple Sports, Updated for Football Season, Will Soon Support Live Activities

Apple's Sports app will introduce Live Activities for all teams and leagues in iOS 18 and watchOS 11, providing real-time scores and play-by-play updates on iPhone and Apple Watch Lock Screens. A new drop-down navigation will be added to the main scorecard views, allowing quicker switching between My Leagues, My Teams, and user feeds for favorited leagues. An enhanced search feature will also be introduced, making it easier to view matches for leagues not currently followed. The requirement for iOS 18 for Live Activities might be a subtle nudge to encourage device OS upgrades. Apple Sports will support Live Activities on WatchOS but won't offer a WatchOS app, which is suitable for glanceable information rather than full-fledged apps.
