Snap Sued Over 'Sextortion' of Kids By Predators

New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez has filed a lawsuit against Snap, accusing Snapchat of promoting and fostering illegal sexual content involving children, facilitating sextortion, and enabling the trafficking of children, drugs, and guns. The lawsuit claims that Snap made false statements about the safety and design of its platforms, knowing they were untrue or contradicted by internal findings. Snap was aware of "rampant" and "massive" sextortion on its platform, which led to children committing suicide due to relentless blackmail demands or the disclosure of intimate images to families and friends. The New Mexico Department of Justice conducted an investigation that found a vast network of dark web sites dedicated to sharing stolen, non-consensual sexual images from Snap. There were over 10,000 records related to Snap and child sexual abuse material in the last year alone. The lawsuit alleges violations of New Mexico's unfair trade practices law.
