Ahead of its Made by Google event, Google has released an AI-powered update to Android’s Wallet app, initially announced at Google I/O 2024. This update simplifies saving a broader range of digital passes, currently available only to US users. Previously, Google Wallet allowed users to save various cards and passes, with an option to add anything else using a photo. The new update renames this feature to "Everything Else," which now recognizes and organizes a wide variety of pass types, including business cards, driver’s licenses, health insurance, and more. Users can easily add these by taking a picture, editing any incorrect AI-scanned details, and saving the pass. Most non-sensitive passes can be shared across multiple Google Wallets, but sensitive ones remain confined to the wallet they were added to. While the update enhances the Wallet's utility, it’s not recommended to fully replace physical IDs with digital ones, as they may not always be accepted. The rollout is gradual, so non-US users or those still seeing the old photo option will receive the update soon.
