PS5 sales have passed the 80 million mark

The PlayStation 5 has achieved a significant sales milestone, surpassing 80 million units sold as of June 30, 2025. This figure places the console in strong contention to overtake previous PlayStation generations in lifetime sales. In the most recent quarter, Sony sold 2.5 million PS5 consoles, a slight decrease from the prior quarter but an increase compared to the same period last year. The company also reported substantial software sales, with approximately 66 million PS4 and PS5 games sold, including a notable number of first-party titles. Digital sales continue to dominate, representing 83 percent of all games sold in the last quarter. Despite previous challenges with live service games, software sales have shown consistent growth. As the PS5 approaches its fifth anniversary, the focus shifts to its potential to reach 100 million units sold. This milestone may be more challenging due to economic factors like tariffs and inflation, which have already led to price increases in several regions. Sony is also considering relocating PS5 manufacturing to the United States in response to these economic pressures.
