Monkeys Still On The Loose After Mississippi Truck Crash

A truck transporting 21 rhesus monkeys crashed in Mississippi, leading to confusion and a search for three missing primates. Initial reports stated most escapees were killed, but authorities later clarified that three monkeys remained unaccounted for. Tulane University, though not the owner or transporter, sent experts to assist, confirming the monkeys had recently passed pathogen-free checkups. The monkeys originated from Tulane's primate research center, a supplier of animals for scientific studies. Despite assurances of the monkeys not being infectious, authorities advised they needed to be "neutralized" due to their aggressive nature. The search continued with university officials and law enforcement, while the other monkeys were returned to Louisiana. State veterinary officials confirmed the animals had proper transport documentation. Authorities urged the public not to approach the monkeys but to contact law enforcement. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred near Heidelberg, Mississippi.
