Rivian unveils a new quad-motor R1 variant

Rivian has unveiled a new high-performance electric vehicle, the Gen 2 Quad R1T truck and R1S SUV, which are positioned as off-road brand magnets rather than practical purchases. The vehicles start at $115,990 and $121,990, respectively. The Gen 2 Quad lineup packs significant power, with four motors combining to give it 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 60mph in as little as 2.5 seconds and cover a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds. The estimated range is 374 miles, which can increase to 400 miles in Conserve mode. The vehicles come with an NACS port as standard, giving access to most of Tesla's supercharger network, and a CCS DC adapter for expanded charging options. Rivian has also introduced new features, including Kick Turn, which allows for sharp turns or spins on dirt and gravel, and RAD Tuner, which lets users customize their ride through sliders and presets inspired by Rivian competition wins. The interior of the EV matches its high-end positioning, with premium quilted seats and a deep bronze finish on the dash, doors, and speaker grilles. For those looking for a more practical option, Rivian's R2 is expected in early 2026, starting at $45,000. Overall, the Gen 2 Quad R1T and R1S are designed for off-road enthusiasts who want a high-performance EV with advanced features.
