Miss Manners: People keep calling me by my last name

Miss Manners addressed a question from a person named Whitney Joseph, who is often mistakenly called Joseph or Joe by others, even though she introduces herself as Whitney and signs her emails as such. She wants to know how to correct this without violating her employer's code of polite email communication. Miss Manners suggests saying, "It's Whitney, actually. I know it can be confusing." In another question, a family member asked if it was rude to exclude children from a wedding. Miss Manners agrees that it was rude for the aunt and uncle to bring their children to the wedding despite the couple's clear wishes and the provision of a sitter. The aunt and uncle caused a scene when asked to take their children to the sitter, which was especially rude given the reason for excluding children was to avoid public tantrums.
