iFixit conducted a teardown of Apple's newest M5 MacBook Pro, released recently. The device primarily features the updated M5 chip and a faster SSD, with few other significant changes. The MacBook Pro's design retains P5 screws for the casing, impacting repair simplicity. Battery replacement remains complicated as Apple only sells the battery integrated within the main chassis. Accessing internal components like fans and ports necessitates logic board removal.
iFixit noted a positive change: the trackpad no longer obstructs access to battery pull tabs. A slightly larger 72.6 Wh battery is present, though Apple's specifications show a different value. Despite these minor adjustments, overall repairability remains largely unchanged. The teardown revealed that nearly all components must be removed for a proper battery replacement. Based on their findings, iFixit awarded the M5 MacBook Pro a repairability score of 4 out of 10.
