Deepfake videos, which use AI to mimic real people, pose significant cybersecurity risks, particularly by deceiving people with fake content of celebrities and public figures. To combat this, McAfee has partnered with Lenovo to introduce the Deepfake Detector, a tool designed to identify and flag deepfake videos on select Lenovo AI PCs. This tool, trained on 200,000 video samples, operates locally on devices with a neural processing unit (NPU), ensuring privacy and real-time detection without needing cloud access. Initially available in the U.S., UK, and Australia, the detector is included in new Lenovo AI PCs with a 30-day trial, followed by a $10 annual subscription. The collaboration between McAfee and Lenovo aims to enhance digital safety, though the exclusivity regarding Intel chips remains unclear. Additionally, McAfee offers a Smart AI Hub at McAfee.ai for users to analyze videos for deepfakes and learn about AI-driven scams.
