Spotify Debuts Playlist Mixing Tool Ahead of Apple Music AutoMix

Spotify has launched a new mixing feature for Premium subscribers, enabling seamless transitions between playlist tracks. This functionality is currently in beta and can be accessed by opening any playlist and selecting "Mix." Users have the option for instant blending via an "Auto" setting or can manually customize their mixes. Customization allows for presets like "Fade" or "Rise," with adjustable settings for volume, EQ, and effect curves. The app displays waveform and beat data to aid in identifying optimal transition points, and key and BPM are shown for each track. This feature works best with music sharing similar tempos and keys, suggesting a rise in house and techno playlists. Apple's upcoming Automix feature differs by creating automatic DJ-style transitions across the entire music library, while Spotify's is playlist-specific and customizable. Spotify's approach offers more user control over transitions. Mixed playlists can be shared with other Premium users and toggled on or off. Premium subscribers should update their Spotify app to access this new mixing feature.
