Oh Cool, Now Bing Is Getting Generative AI Search Too

Google's AI Overviews has been criticized for suggesting putting glue in pizza, leading to threats to leave Google Search. Bing is now introducing its own AI Overviews, Bing Generative Search, which will significantly change the Bing homepage layout. Bing Generative Search will display an information box, bullet points, related content, and videos on the left half of the screen, with traditional search results in a sidebar on the right. Microsoft describes this as an "AI-generated experience" that provides detailed information, but it could be overwhelming and may reduce the emphasis on articles already on the web. There is no information on whether users can turn Bing Generative Search off or a release timetable. Microsoft is slowly rolling this out and will listen to feedback over the coming months. Concerns include potential misinformation, reduced clickthrough rates, and content plagiarism.
