Santa's House in Uummannaq, Greenland

Every Arctic country claims Santa Claus as their own, with Canada, Finland, Norway, and Denmark each having their own unique claim. In Denmark, children believe Santa lives in Greenland, specifically in a house near the town of Uummannaq. This tradition was popularized by Flemming Jensen, a Danish writer and director who produced the 1989 children's show "The Elf Gang In Greenland." The show was a Christmas calendar series with 24 episodes, and the scenes featuring Santa's home were filmed in a small house built in traditional Greenlandic style near Uummannaq. The house has become a lasting part of Danish collective imagination as Santa's home away from the toy factory. The house is still standing and has been fully furnished by locals, with a guestbook and letters from children dating back over 20 years. Despite being a remote and accessible location, the house has been preserved and remains a time capsule. However, the surrounding landscape has changed significantly due to climate change, with a field of ice that once covered the area melting away by 2011. The area is now a sea where a fjord once existed, highlighting the impact of climate change on the environment. The house remains a popular destination, with a welcome sign in Uummannaq proclaiming the town as "Santa's vacation paradise."
