US Consumer Sentiment Slips For 3rd Straight Month In October But Tariff-Fears Fade

Consumer confidence in October decreased slightly, reaching 94.6, exceeding predicted expectations. This marks the third consecutive monthly decline. Expectations for the next six months fell to their lowest point since June. The present situation metric saw an increase, suggesting an improved view of current conditions. However, the expectations index indicates some weakening in future job prospects and business conditions. Confidence declined for younger consumers and those earning below $75,000 annually. Conversely, confidence improved for those aged 35-54 and most earners above $75,000. Consumer write-in responses highlighted inflation as the primary economic concern. Assessments of families' current financial situation improved in October. Independents saw an increase in confidence, while Democrats and Republicans experienced decreases.
