A subset of Gemini enterprise users experienced elevated error rates when using Calendar, Keep, and Tasks extensions from the Gemini App on Web between October 21 and November 7, 2024. The issue occurred due to an incorrect configuration setting on the backend server controlling the rollout of a new feature supporting these extensions. The feature was rolled out gradually, resulting in varying impact timeframes for different customers. Google engineers were alerted to the issue on October 29, 2024, and after initial investigations, the issue was escalated to the engineering team on November 5, 2024. Upon identifying the issue, engineers promptly disabled the controlling setting, enabled the correct configuration setting, and re-enabled the controlling setting, resolving the issue. Google is committed to preventing a repeat of this issue and is enhancing real-time monitoring of Gemini feature rollouts and refining the rollout sequence. Affected users may have observed error messages when trying to use the affected extensions, including messages stating that Gemini could not assist with the request or access the user's Google Calendar. The issue affected a subset of Gemini enterprise users who had Workspace extensions set to "On." Google apologizes for the disruption and is taking immediate steps to prevent such disruptions in the future. The incident was resolved on November 7, 2024, at 17:04 UTC.
