Google tests its ‘Ask Photos’ AI assistant that understands what’s in your pictures

Google is introducing a new feature called "Ask Photos" that allows users to explore their photo library in new ways. This feature uses Google's Gemini AI models to understand and respond to questions about the content of photos. Users can ask questions like "Where did we camp last time we went to Yosemite?" and the app will provide answers and relevant images. Ask Photos can also help summarize activities from a vacation or select the best family photos for a shared album. Users can sign up for the waitlist to access Ask Photos on Google's website. Google is also upgrading its "classic search" feature, allowing users to search for pictures using natural language like "Alice and me laughing" or "Kayaking on a lake surrounded by mountains." This feature is rolling out in English on Android and iOS, with support for more languages coming soon. The upgraded search results can be sorted by date or relevance. Google Photos has replaced the Library tab with a new Collection page to make it easier to find photos and videos. This new tab will help users navigate their photo library more efficiently.
