Amazon ECS now supports built-in Linear and Canary deployments

Amazon ECS now supports linear and canary deployment strategies, enhancing flexibility in deploying containerized applications. These new options work alongside existing blue/green deployments, allowing users to select ideal traffic shifting methods. Linear deployments gradually shift traffic in equal percentage increments over a set time, enabling multi-stage validation. Users define the step percentage and the time between shifts for monitoring. Canary deployments send a small portion of traffic to the new revision while the majority stays on the stable version. A canary bake time allows for performance monitoring before full traffic shift occurs. Both strategies include a deployment bake time after all traffic moves to the new revision. This pause permits quick rollbacks if problems are identified. Deployment lifecycle hooks and CloudWatch alarms can automate validation and trigger automatic rollbacks. These features are available in all commercial AWS Regions and support ALB or ECS Service Connect integrations.
