Apple Releases iPadOS 26.1 With Slide Over Multitasking

Apple has released iPadOS 26.1, a significant update to the iPadOS 26 operating system. This update, available over-the-air, reintroduces the Slide Over multitasking feature that was previously removed. Slide Over allows users to keep an app window on top of other windows for easy access. iPadOS 26.1 also incorporates new features from iOS 26.1, like reducing Liquid Glass transparency. This update adds Apple Intelligence support for additional languages, enhancing the user experience. The update includes gain control for external USB microphones during local capture recordings. Users can now choose where local capture recordings are saved. Other improvements include a swipe gesture for the Apple Music MiniPlayer and AutoMix support over AirPlay. Additionally, a new setting lets users control the Lock Screen swipe to open the Camera function. Communication Safety filters and Web content filters are now enabled by default for child accounts. Lastly, iPad users can now access Apple Vision Pro app content and spatial experiences.
