Apple Stockpiling Parts for Foldable iPhone Ahead of 2026 Launch

Apple is reportedly stockpiling components for its first foldable iPhone, tentatively named iPhone Fold, indicating progress towards its launch. The company is securing crucial parts such as foldable OLED displays, titanium frames, and complex hinge assemblies. This inventory buildup suggests Apple is entering the pre-production phase, mitigating risks associated with long lead times and component failure rates. The foldable iPhone is expected to resemble the Galaxy Z Fold with a book-style folding mechanism. It will feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner display, potentially with an under-screen camera. Authentication is expected via Touch ID integrated into the side button, and a dual-lens camera will be on the rear. The frame is rumored to utilize a mix of titanium and aluminum or titanium and stainless steel for enhanced durability. The device is predicted to be exceptionally thin, potentially around 4.5mm when unfolded. Current expectations are for an iPhone Fold that will be included in the iPhone 18 lineup scheduled for release in September 2026.
