Beer Advertising Museum in Breda, Netherlands

Though often overshadowed by neighboring Belgium and Germany, the Netherlands boasts a beer culture all its own. Today, a few big names like Heineken dominate the market, but historically, nearly every town had its own brewery. Many of those local brands and beer styles have faded into history, but their enamel signs and poster advertisements endure as colorful reminders of the country’s brewing past. Founded by collector Jan Hemmer in 1990, the Beer Advertising Museum is Europe’s largest museum dedicated to brewing memorabilia. The collection focuses on the period from 1900 to 1960 and includes not only vintage posters and enamel signs but also bottles, coasters, bar cabinets, pushcarts, and brewing equipment. Best of all, this museum doubles as a working bar, inviting visitors to enjoy a drink surrounded by a century’s worth of beer history.
