An abandoned copper mine, easily accessible and historically significant, attracts rockhounds and history buffs. The mine, operated by various companies from 1917 to 1998, once yielded substantial copper, with underground mining transitioning to open-pit operations in 1943. While mothballed in 1993, the site still offers glimpses of its past, including an open tunnel. Visitors can explore storage tanks, some containing relics like an old car, and an old building filled with abandoned supplies. Outside, remnants of processing machines are visible, showcasing the mining process. The open pit itself, accessible by high-clearance vehicles, reveals stunning turquoise chrysocolla ore. A large pool of vibrant, copper-infused water, often with turquoise foam, is also present. This site provides a captivating look into the history of copper mining and the natural beauty associated with this activity.
