Former Frontex chief Fabrice Leggeri revealed the intense pressure he faced from EU elites while defending borders against mass migration. Commissioner Ylva Johansson allegedly told Leggeri his job was to welcome migrants, despite Frontex's mandate to manage EU borders. Leggeri faced political attacks from the European Commission, led by Johansson of the Swedish Workers’ Party. He accused Johansson of threatening him for attempting to fulfill Frontex's border management responsibilities. Pro-immigration NGOs, posing as defenders of fundamental rights, increasingly pressured Frontex. These NGOs even suggested bussing illegal immigrants into Lithuania and Poland. Leggeri advised Poland against utilizing Frontex's assistance due to this pressure. He felt increasing political hostility toward border management after Johansson's arrival. Leggeri implicated George Soros' Open Society Foundation and left-wing media in actions against him and Frontex. Johansson and Soros' operatives allegedly aimed to control Frontex and facilitate illegal migrant entry by establishing a parallel command structure.
