"I guess I'm not allowed to run": Trump concedes third term won't happen

President Trump has acknowledged it is "pretty clear" he cannot be elected to a third term as president. This statement comes after months of hinting at a potential 2028 run, a concept largely dismissed due to the U.S. Constitution's 22nd Amendment. The amendment explicitly limits a person to two terms in office. Despite this constitutional roadblock, Trump and his allies have continued to discuss the possibility publicly and on merchandise. Trump directly told reporters that he "guess[es] I'm not allowed to run," though he remains optimistic about his poll numbers, which contrary to his claims, are often shown to be false by reputable polls. House Speaker Mike Johnson also spoke with Trump about the constitutional limitations, stating he sees no clear path for a 2028 bid. Johnson suggested Trump enjoys "trolling the Democrats" with the prospect, a characterization Trump reportedly denied. However, the conversation has been reignited by former advisor Steve Bannon, who suggested a "plan" exists to circumvent the constitutional rules, though amending the Constitution is highly improbable. Trump has also dismissed the idea of serving as Vice President to then run, calling it "too cute." This isn't the first time Trump has downplayed a third term bid; he previously stated he was "not looking to do" it, aiming for four years and then turning over power. The persistent suggestions, even if interpreted as trolling, have caused concern among legal scholars due to Trump's history of pushing presidential power boundaries.
