Kenyan Navy Intercepts Flagless Vessel Carrying $63 Million in Meth

Kenyan authorities seized over a ton of methamphetamine from a flagless dhow in a maritime drug bust. The interception occurred east of Mombasa after intelligence shared among international agencies. The Kenyan Navy escorted the vessel to Mombasa where a multi-agency command center was established. INTERPOL played an advisory role, coordinating support from the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Authorities discovered 769 packets containing 1,024 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The seized drugs are valued at over USD 63 million according to Kenyan experts. Six crew members were arrested and face drug-trafficking charges. Kenya’s Anti-Narcotics Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the matter. The operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating maritime drug trafficking.
