Meta's EMG wristband is moving beyond its AR glasses

Meta is expanding the applications of its EMG technology beyond smart glasses. The company is partnering with various entities like Garmin for new use cases. At CES 2026, a demonstration showed Meta's neural band controlling a car's infotainment system. The demo involved navigating apps and playing a game using wrist gestures. Garmin is considering using the band for controlling vehicle functions like windows. Meta is also collaborating with the University of Utah on research. This research aims to aid individuals with conditions like ALS and muscular dystrophy. The goal is to control smart home devices using the neural band. The technology can detect subtle muscle movements even with limited hand mobility. Research will explore the band's use for mobility aids, like the TetraSki program.
