Ojos al Cielo in La Palma, Spain

The Canary islands are a beautiful place full of nature and parties. However, it is also home to some of the world's biggest telescopes and observatories. Despite that, there is not much in terms of astronomical visitor centers, a void that Ojos al Cielo tries to fill. (The name translates to “Eyes to Heaven.”) The museum is run by Francesca Ghinassi Luschi, a retired astronomer who spent 20 years working at the La Palma observatory. It combines her professional knowledge with art by local artists, to explain the cosmos in an accessible and unique way.  Once inside you can find out how much you weigh on other planets, or find out your age and birthday on Mars. It even lets you experience the life of a photon flying at the speed of light. All this while being guided by Francesca herself, who explains both the science and artistic vision behind each installation.
