Trump Hikes Canada's Tariffs By 10% for Not Pulling Anti-Tariff Ad Immediately

Trump announced he would raise tariffs on Canada by 10% due to an Ontario advertisement using Ronald Reagan to criticize tariffs. The ad campaign, Trump claimed, misrepresented Reagan's views and interfered with an upcoming Supreme Court case on global tariffs. The Reagan Foundation criticized the ad, stating it misused and edited Reagan's words. Trump accused Canada of running a "fraudulent" ad, particularly during the World Series. He didn't specify the details of the tariff increase, but current tariffs exist, notably on steel, aluminum and autos. Canadian officials expressed concern and hoped for diplomatic resolution. Canadian PM Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford are working to resolve the situation, while US officials, like Kevin Hassett, are less optimistic. Trump views the ads as an attempt to influence the Supreme Court case on his tariffs. The Reagan quotes were spliced together, leading to the foundation's complaint. Trump also stated he does not intend to meet Canadian officials during his Asian trip.
