Turkey will begin supplying natural gas from Azerbaijan to Syria starting August 2nd. This initiative is part of a swap agreement where Azerbaijani gas will be exported to Aleppo, Syria, via Kilis. Ministers from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Qatar will attend a launch ceremony, with Qatar contributing financially to the project. The six million cubic meters of gas supplied is expected to enable 1,200 megawatts of electricity production. Additionally, Turkey will directly provide 500 megawatts of electricity to aid Syria's energy needs. This follows a May announcement detailing Turkey's commitment to supply two billion cubic meters of gas and 1,000 MW of electricity annually. Azerbaijan's SOCAR may also become a partner in this energy deal. Syria's Energy Minister confirmed the agreement for natural gas deliveries through a northern pipeline. The gas will power Syria's existing power plants, aiming to alleviate severe electricity shortages. This cooperation occurs amid broader international efforts to support Syria's recovery and economic development.
