'Fantastic Four' Tops 'Superman' Opening, Second-Largest of the Year

Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps achieved a strong opening day at the domestic box office, earning approximately $57 million. This performance positions it as the second-largest opening day of the year so far. The film's success is a positive sign for Marvel and Disney, following their strategy to prioritize quality over quantity in their productions. Its opening day revenue narrowly missed that of "A Minecraft Movie" but surpassed "Superman." Globally, the movie has garnered around $106 million, with $49.2 million coming from overseas markets. Projections indicate an opening weekend of approximately $125 million, matching "Superman's" performance. Critically, "Fantastic Four: First Steps" has been well-received, holding an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6/10 on IMDb. This opening weekend performance already outdoes the entire domestic run of the 2015 Fantastic Four film. Marvel's upcoming releases include "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" next summer and "Avengers: Doomsday" in December.
