Dropbox Passwords Is Shutting Down in Phases Starting Next Month

Dropbox will be discontinuing its password manager service, Dropbox Passwords, on October 28th. The service, launched in 2020, will cease new entries and autofill features starting August 28th, making it view-only. The mobile app will stop functioning on September 11th, though the browser extension will remain active until the final shutdown. Users are strongly encouraged to export their stored passwords, usernames, and payment information before October 28th. Dropbox will permanently delete all user data from its servers on that date. The company advises users to migrate their credentials to alternative password managers such as 1Password. Dropbox has provided export guides on its support website to assist users with this process. The company states this closure will enable them to focus on improving core product features. Dropbox Passwords faced significant competition from established password managers and integrated solutions from major tech companies. This decision follows Dropbox's acquisition of password manager Valt in 2019.
