Comcast rolls out its free annual Xfinity internet speed boosts

Comcast is upgrading its Xfinity internet speeds for many users at no extra cost, with some subscribers seeing double the upload speeds and others getting a 50% increase. While this is a welcome improvement, fiber internet providers like Google Fiber and Verizon Fios typically offer symmetrical download and upload speeds. Comcast's download speeds are also increasing on most tiers, with the top Gigabit x2 plan getting a 100Mbps boost to 2.1Gbps. Over 20 million customers will receive a free upgrade as part of this rollout, with the goal of offering 2Gbps service to over 50 million homes and businesses by the end of the year. New and existing Xfinity internet customers can also get a free year of unlimited Xfinity Mobile if they subscribe to a plan with 400Mbps or faster speeds. The speed upgrades vary by tier, with the lowest "NOW" tier going from 100/10Mbps to 100/20Mbps and the top "Gigabit x2" tier going from 2,000/300Mbps to 2,100/300Mbps. Other tiers, such as "Connect" and "Superfast", are also seeing significant speed boosts. The upgrades are part of Comcast's effort to improve its internet services and stay competitive in the market. Overall, the speed increases should provide a better internet experience for many Xfinity customers.
