Global Police Dismantle Encrypted Messaging App Used By Criminals

International law enforcement agencies have taken down Ghost, an encrypted communication platform used by criminals. The crackdown led to the arrest of 51 individuals and disrupted the messaging services used by criminal organizations. Europol, along with agencies from nine countries, collaborated in the operation. Ghost employed encryption standards and allowed users to delete messages using a specific code. The takedown follows the successful operations against other encrypted platforms like EncroChat and Sky ECC. The operation was initiated based on information provided by the FBI. Australian authorities played a significant role in identifying the administrator of Ghost, a 32-year-old Australian. Decryption efforts by officers enabled them to read users' messages, potentially preventing harm to approximately 50 individuals. The successful takedown highlights the ongoing efforts of international agencies to combat the use of encrypted messaging services by criminal groups.
