AT&T debuts new plan, making it easier to split the bill on shared plans

AT&T introduces SplitPay, a new service that allows individual billing for shared wireless plans. SplitPay aims to simplify the process of paying for multiline plans, which often involves one person being responsible for collecting payments from others. The service will be initially available on AT&T's network and may be licensed to other companies in the future. Primary account holders retain overall financial responsibility, but SplitPay sends text reminders to payors and notifies account holders if payments are overdue. Payors can make recurring payments to minimize missed payments. AT&T claims SplitPay is the first industry-wide individual billing system for shared accounts. The service targets customers who currently use informal methods of splitting bill payments. AT&T estimates that half of its customers with multiple line plans engage in some form of split payment.
