Linda's Gourmet Latkes, a popular choice on Goldbelly, has a variety of options including big or small, potato or sweet potato, gluten-free or green onion. However, the standard latkes we ordered were reminiscent of McDonald's hash browns, with a bland flavor and a peculiar, bitter aftertaste. Zingerman's Delicessen latkes had an unappealing appearance and were soft and spongy due to too much binder, with a bland flavor that didn't redeem the aesthetic issues. Mile End Deli's latkes had a slightly orange tinge and a dry, oily aftertaste, making them not worth writing home about. Attman's Deli latkes had too little binder, causing the potato shreds to fall apart, and the flavor was described as the musty essence of a Ramada Inn. Manny's Deli latkes had a yellow tinge and gummy texture, resembling cornbread more than latkes, with a not-terrible potato flavor but hard-to-get-past consistency. Trader Joe's latkes were initially thought to be rebranded Golden latkes due to their similar size and shape, but they had a metallic flavor and sour aftertaste, not ideal for Hanukkah celebrations.
