Local Note: WMMR’s Pierre Robert Found Dead at 70

Pierre Robert, a beloved WMMR-FM radio host, has passed away at the age of 70. He joined the Philadelphia station in 1981, relocating from San Francisco after his previous station changed formats. Robert's arrival in Philadelphia was driven by love, which ultimately didn't last, but his career thrived. Initially, he worked at a health food store while seeking radio opportunities. He casually met WMMR's program director, but no positions were available at the time. A few weeks later, he got an interview and landed a job in the music library, making $3.50 an hour. Robert's career is a quintessential Philadelphia story, beginning at a concert and leading to a 44-year stint at the station. His voice became synonymous with music for many listeners, including the author and his friends. He was known for his holiday segments featuring the character Reginald the Butler. Robert is remembered fondly, including a classic 1988 interview with David Lee Roth.
