This Nike Air Jordan is a wearable data viz for your foot

Nike's latest Air Jordan 1, the "Self-Expression," is a unique sneaker that transforms into a one-of-a-kind design as you wear it. The shoe initially appears black, but its finish flakes off over time, revealing blue, green, and yellow panels underneath. This creates a unique pattern that's special to each wearer, making every pair distinct. The concept flips the idea of scuff marks from a negative to a positive, giving value to the wear and tear on the shoe. The Air Jordan 1 High OG "Self-Expression" will be released on July 31 and will retail for $185. Nike has experimented with similar designs in the past, including rub-away Air Max 1s and Nike SB x Air Jordan 1s. The Air Force 1 Low Dirty Triple White also ages backwards to reveal a brighter, whiter layer underneath. The trend of color-changing shoes has also been seen in collaborations with other brands, such as Dr. Martens and Supreme. The Air Jordan 1 has become a cultural phenomenon, symbolizing self-expression and status for many young people. With the "Self-Expression" design, Nike is taking the idea of wear and tear to a new level, where imperfections become the focal point of the shoe.
