Developers Can Now Make Android Apps With Apple's Swift

Apple released the first preview of the Swift SDK for Android this week. This SDK allows developers to build Android applications using Swift with official support. Developers can now share code between iOS and Android platforms more easily. The SDK utilizes official tooling instead of requiring community workarounds. The extension of Swift to Android was announced in June via an Android Working Group. Android interoperability is facilitated by swift-java, creating bindings between Java and Swift for API access. The Swift Package Index identifies packages compatible with Android, showcasing existing code reusability. The SDK is available in nightly preview versions alongside Swift for Windows or as a separate download. Comprehensive setup instructions and example projects are now available. A vision document outlining future priorities and a public project board for tracking progress are in development.
