Amazon will use AI to generate recaps for book series on the Kindle

Amazon has introduced a new "Recaps" feature for Kindle devices to summarize book series for readers. This feature provides short summaries of previous books in a series, similar to "Previously on..." segments in television. The recaps are AI-generated, using a combination of GenAI and Amazon moderators to ensure accuracy. Users initially expressed concerns about potential inaccuracies or "hallucinations" from the AI. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the accuracy of the recaps, though use remains at the user's discretion. Currently, Recaps is available for best-selling English-language book series on Kindle devices in the US. To access the recaps, users can look for a "View Recaps" button within the series page. The feature is included in the latest Kindle software update, accessible over the air or via download. The feature is designed to help readers quickly refresh their memory of a series. The "Recaps" feature will soon be available on the Kindle app for iOS devices as well.
