Microsoft Unveils New Voice-Activated AI Assistant For Doctors

Microsoft has introduced Dragon Copilot, a voice-activated AI assistant for doctors that automates clinical documentation, including notes, referrals, and post-visit summaries. The tool is set to launch in May in the U.S. and Canada. Microsoft acquired Nuance Communications, the company behind Dragon Medical One and DAX Copilot, for $16 billion in 2021, making it a major player in the AI scribing market. AI scribes like DAX Copilot allow doctors to draft clinical notes in real-time as they record patient visits. DAX Copilot has been used in over 3 million patient visits across 600 healthcare organizations in the last month. Dragon Copilot is accessible through a mobile app, browser, or desktop and integrates with several electronic health records. Clinicians can use natural language to edit documentation and prompt the assistant further. For example, doctors can ask questions like "Was the patient experiencing ear pain?" or "Can you add ICD-10 codes to the assessment and plan?" Physicians can also ask broader treatment-related queries and get answers with links to resources like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dragon Copilot aims to help address burnout in healthcare by automating clinical documentation. The tool is designed to make it easier for doctors to focus on patient care while reducing administrative tasks.
