An Iran-linked cyberattack group, known as "Robert", has threatened to release a trove of stolen emails from associates of President Trump, including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Roger Stone. The group claims to have around 100 gigabytes of emails involving several individuals, including Trump's lawyer and an adult film actress. The hackers have spoken of potentially selling the emails, but have not disclosed details of the material. The Justice Department has previously alleged that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps oversaw the hacking drive. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has called the threat a "calculated smear campaign" designed to distract, discredit, and divide. A CISA spokesperson stated that the attack is nothing more than digital propaganda aimed at damaging President Trump and discrediting public servants. The spokesperson added that the criminals will be found and brought to justice. The threat comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, with the Trump administration recently releasing a report warning of potential Iranian cyberattacks on US firms and critical infrastructure. The report was released on the same day as the threat, and just days after Trump announced he was halting plans to ease sanctions on Iran. The incident highlights the ongoing cybersecurity threats faced by the US and its political leaders.
