X is back in Brazil after a five-week ban

X is resuming its service in Brazil after a five-week ban, following a Supreme Court order that allowed regulators to take steps to restore the platform. The ban was lifted after X complied with the court's demands, including blocking certain accounts and paying fines totaling around $5 million. The dispute began when X refused to comply with the court's orders, which it deemed as "censorship orders," and led to the freezing of Starlink's Brazilian bank accounts. X eventually relented and blocked the accounts in question, paving the way for the service to be restored. The company stated that it is proud to return to Brazil and will continue to defend freedom of speech within the boundaries of the law. The ban had a significant impact, with at least one rival, Bluesky, adding over 2 million new users in the days following the ban. Bluesky, which originated as a project at Twitter, benefited from X's outage in Brazil. The standoff between X and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has now ended, allowing the service to resume operations in the country. X's return to Brazil gives tens of millions of users access to the platform once again. The company's decision to comply with the court's demands marks a significant turning point in the dispute.
