Can I make frosting without instant pudding?

I wanted to make cupcakes with frosting on top and usually I make the frosting combining heavy cream, milk, and instant pudding. Turns out I only have one pack of instant pudding, and I need 2 for the amount of cupcakes that I am making. Would it work if I make half of the frosting using heavy cream, milk, and cocoa powder (for the flavour)?
