Intel Teams Up With Japanese National Research Institute To Further EUV Development

Intel is partnering with Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) to establish a research and development center in Japan for advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology. The center will focus on extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV), a crucial technology for manufacturing chips at smaller scales. Intel will contribute its expertise in EUV, while AIST will provide the infrastructure. The center aims to strengthen Japan's capabilities in chip manufacturing and reduce reliance on EUV equipment imports, particularly from the Netherlands-based ASML Holding. Japanese companies like Lasertec and JSR, which specialize in EUV-related equipment and materials, are expected to benefit from this collaboration. The investment in the center is expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars and will span several years.
