Ulysses Lodge in Xagħra, Malta

Ramla Beach on Gozo's north coast is a popular sandy beach in Malta's archipelago. While visitors come to sunbathe and swim, the beach is also home to the abandoned Ulysses Lodge, a notable ruin on the western hill. The lodge was a popular wedding venue in the 1980s, named after the nearby Calypso Cave, which is said to be the home of the mythological nymph who held Odysseus captive. However, the hotel's construction was controversial due to its prominent location in a scenic area. Over time, the hotel fell into disrepair and redevelopment plans were met with local opposition, ultimately being scrapped. The site has remained abandoned since the late 2000s. Despite its state, the lodge has become a hotspot for graffiti artists and urban explorers. It still offers stunning views of Gozo's north shore. The Ulysses Lodge's history and current state make it a fascinating spot to visit. The contrast between the lodge's abandonment and the beach's popularity is a unique aspect of Ramla Beach.
