Apple's WWDC 2025 keynote has revealed that iOS 26 will skip the numbering scheme, and the new Liquid Glass design will be the largest visual update in years. However, not all iPhones will be compatible with iOS 26, with the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max being left behind. If you have an ineligible device, you won't be able to download iOS 26 when it becomes available this fall. iPhones announced in 2019 or later, including the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16, will be compatible with iOS 26. If you don't want to buy a new iPhone, you'll miss out on security updates, and some apps may stop working if they require a certain version of iOS or later. iOS 26 is expected to be released in mid-September, just before the new iPhones hit store shelves. The new features of iOS 26 include a revamped home screen with new app icons, a phone app redesign, Live Translate, and a polls feature in group messages. The Liquid Glass design aims to make all of Apple's OSes more cohesive. The new features will only be accessible to those with compatible iPhones.
