Trump Pivots To Pressuring Israel For New Ceasefire Deal In Gaza

President Trump has called for a deal to be made in Gaza to bring back hostages, shifting focus from Iran strikes to seeking peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict. However, the Palestinian side is skeptical of progress due to Israel's refusal to abandon its goal of destroying Hamas. A senior adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit Washington for ceasefire discussions, and Netanyahu may soon meet with Trump at the White House. Trump has expressed optimism about reaching a ceasefire within a week, but negotiations have stalled over the terms of a truce. Hamas demands a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in exchange for releasing hostages, while Israel insists that Hamas militants disarm and leave the Strip. The conflicting demands have prevented a deal, despite pressure from both populations to end the war. Israeli airstrikes have continued to target Gaza, with at least 80 Palestinians killed and dozens wounded. Egypt is working on a new deal that includes a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of some Israeli captives. The war has resulted in significant casualties, with over 56,000 Gazans killed and 133,000 wounded, and 1,139 people killed in Israel, with around 20 living hostages remaining.
